Sunny Santa Fe
After our time in Arizona, we made the journey in our RV over to historic Santa Fe, New Mexico. We’ve enjoyed exploring the city and surrounding landscape with beautiful sunny and dry weather here in late May. We did have a slight change in plans as we originally had reservations to stay at the Santa Fe KOA. After realizing that we had absolutely no cell service (needed for our hot spot to work remotely) we left after our first night and setup shop at the Santa Fe Skies RV Park. The RV park is setup very nicely with our own private patio area and quick access to the city – we’d highly recommend it!
One of the main things the city is known for is its traditional adobe architecture and its wide array of art galleries. The epicenter of this is on a street called Canyon Road which has over 100 galleries itself all along a picturesque street with adobe homes and turquoise accents everywhere. We were there later in the evening when most galleries were closed, but it was fun to walk the streets without crowds and go through many of the outdoor galleries/sculpture parks. We did this walk from the Plaza area which also has many museums and restaurants available. Our round trip walk was around 2 miles to explore all of Canyon Road and loop back. In the Plaza we also enjoyed walking around the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi – the Corgis especially liked the dog statue in the front (St Francis of Assisi is known for his connection to animals and the environment).
Another big aspect of Santa Fe is the surrounding landscape – the high dessert city it situated between rolling mountains with a wide variety of terrains and vegetation. We decided to do an after work hike up Sun Mountain which is just on the outskirts of town. The trail to the summit ends up being around 2 miles in and out and has almost 800ft of climb. The trek was definitely a workout but not as technically challenging as some of the other hikes we’ve done on the trip – still many rocks to scramble over and steep inclines. The views were amazing and the ever changing terrain up the mountain was fun to see especially with many varieties of cactuses and trees.
We are glad we added Santa Fe to our itinerary – a lot of good food and drink options (we especially enjoyed Rowley Farmhouse Ales) and the city is small enough that you can get everywhere you want to go quickly!
We hope this helps you plan your next trip! Check out more of our outdoor adventures here.
