Crater Lake National Park With Dogs

Crater Lake National Park With Dogs

Nestled in the mountains of southern Oregon, Crater Lake National Park is a must-see destination for anyone who loves stunning landscapes and outdoor adventures. Known for its impossibly blue water and striking volcanic scenery, the park draws visitors from all over the world. But what if you want to share this incredible experience with your dog? While exploring Crater Lake National Park with dogs requires a bit of extra planning, the park offers several dog-friendly areas where you and your furry companion can soak in the beauty of this natural wonder together.

Know Before You Go: Pet Regulations

As with most national parks, there are many restrictions on where dogs can go. Make sure to checkout Crater Lake’s pet page for a detailed list of these restrictions and dog-friendly options. There are plenty of dog-friendly hikes available and places to explore and the park does a great job laying these details out.

Rim Village

The Rim Village, located near the south entrance of the park, is a great starting point for your Crater Lake adventure. You can walk your dog along the paved pathways in this area, which offer stunning views of the lake and the surrounding cliffs. The Rim Village Café and Gift Shop is also located here, making it a convenient spot to grab a snack or some souvenirs.

So Much Snow!

We stopped by the park in May since we were in the area, but we knew going into it that we’d have limited activities due to the snow. This park can receive a massive amount of snow which can take until Summer to melt away. Make sure to check conditions and plan appropriately. When there is heavy snow, visitors can still visit Rim Village and climb up on to the snow bank along the promenade to explore. We had great views and the dogs loved playing in the snow!

Visiting Crater Lake National Park with dogs may require some planning, but it’s worth the effort. From peaceful walks along the rim to relaxing evenings at the campground, you and your dog can enjoy this breathtaking park together. So grab your leash, pack your gear, and get ready for a memorable adventure in one of Oregon’s most beautiful natural wonders. Check out our dog-friendly travel posts for more trip ideas and tips.
