Exploring the Great Outdoors
Bend is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts, and dogs are welcome almost everywhere! Make sure you don’t miss these top spots with your pups:
- Deschutes River Trail – This popular trail consists of over 12 miles winding through the heart of Bend. The trail follows the scenic Deschutes River and takes you through several parks and water access points. Many of Bend’s popular stops are along the river and easy to walk to along this trail. Some sections of the trail are off-leash, allowing your dog to roam freely.
- Pilot Butte – This extinct lava dome volcano is one of only 6 in the US within a city! A dog-friendly 1.8 mile out & back hike leads you to the summit along smooth dirt trails. Once you make it to the top you’re rewarded with amazing panoramic view of the high desert and surrounding mountains.
- Tumalo Falls Trail – The surrounding Deschutes National Forest offers many dog-friendly hikes. The most popular trail near Bend is the Tumalo Falls Trail. This scenic hike offers stunning views of a 97-foot waterfall. Unfortunately the trail was still snow covered when we were there in May, so make sure to check conditions.
Dog-Friendly Bend, Oregon Breweries
Bend has the third most breweries per capita in the US with 26 in the city! Not only do these breweries produce word class beer, but most of them are also dog-friendly! Though dogs aren’t allowed inside the brewery taprooms, many breweries have heated outdoor areas so that you can enjoy the patios year round.
Our Top Picks
We had so many great brewery stops on our trip – these were some of our favorites:
- Deschutes Brewery – The largest and most well known brewery in town is a must-stop for beer lovers. As a bonus the brewery has setup dog-friendly tables inside their lobby that connects to the on-site tasting room. We enjoyed getting a break from the chilly spring weather and the dogs enjoyed being the official greeters to the taproom!
- Bend Brewing Company – This brewpub offers a scenic setting next to the river and also provides a very toasty outdoor seating area. Definitely a local favorite!
- 10 Barrel Brewing Company – Relax with your dogs in a great outdoor space with multiple patio spots and a large fire pit. The atmosphere is laid-back and the beer is great.
- Crux Fermentation Project – This brewery not only serves up some of the best beer in town, but it also has a large outdoor area where dogs are more than welcome. With stunning views of the Cascade Mountains, Crux is the perfect spot to enjoy a pint while your dog relaxes by your side.
- Monkless Belgian Ales Brasserie – With a scenic location next to the river, Monkless offers a heated outdoor space inside of a covered patio which is great for those cooler days. Make sure to have some of their tasty food while you’re there as well.
