Dog-Friendly Carmel-By-The-Sea

Carmel-By-The-Sea, a charming coastal town on California’s Monterey Peninsula, is known for its dog-friendly atmosphere. Whether you’re strolling the quaint streets, exploring outdoor cafes, or soaking in the stunning scenery, your four-legged companion will feel as welcome as you do. In this blog, we’ll highlight two key attractions for a visit to Carmel with your dog: the beautiful Carmel Beach and the town’s pet-friendly wine tasting rooms.

Carmel Beach: A Dog’s Paradise

Carmel Beach is one of the most dog-friendly beaches in California. Dogs are welcome to run free off-leash, creating a paradise for both pets and their owners. With soft white sand and gentle waves, this beach is perfect for a fun-filled day with your dog. Whether your pet loves chasing waves, digging in the sand, or simply trotting along the shoreline, Carmel Beach offers an ideal backdrop for adventure.

The beach is easy to access from Ocean Avenue and from stairs along Scenic Road. Parking is available nearby. Early mornings and late afternoons are perfect times to visit, offering fewer crowds and stunning sunsets. Be sure to bring a towel – your dog will likely want to jump in the water! And of course, always clean up after your pet to help keep this beautiful spot pristine for everyone.

After time on the beach, take a leisurely stroll along Scenic Road. This pathway runs along the coast, offering incredible views of the ocean and rugged coastline. It’s dog-friendly, so you and your dog can continue enjoying the fresh sea air and stunning surroundings.

Dog-Friendly Wine Tasting Rooms

After a beach day, why not treat yourself (and your pup) to a wine-tasting experience? Carmel-By-The-Sea is home to several dog-friendly wine tasting rooms. These spots allow you to sample some of California’s finest wines while keeping your dog by your side. Many of these tasting rooms welcome dogs with water bowls, treats, and even cozy beds.

The Albatross Ridge tasting room was one of favorite stops. Our server was great and was very helpful in learning about the variety of wines they produce As a bonus, they had dog jerky treats available to purchase!

Another one of our top stops was at the De Tierra Vineyard tasting room. Their laid back atmosphere was a nice place to relax with our dogs and enjoy wine. We especially enjoyed that they sold a bottle of wine specifically to support a local animal rescue organization!

Dog-Friendly Carmel-By-The-Sea Biking

If your dog wants to have the coolest looking ride in town, stop by Mad Dogs & Englishmen to check out their bike rentals. The bike shop offers a number of one-of-a-kind rentals including rides with dog-friendly sidecars! These electric bikes allow you to cruise the streets of Carmel-By-The-Sea and surrounding scenery with ease. The staff made sure we were setup safely and gave us many recommendations for routes to take on the bikes.
