In this dog-friendly guide to Fort Collins, we’ll explore some of the city’s best breweries that welcome dogs with open paws along with some of our other favorite dog-friendly spots.
Breweries
We’ve been to just about every dog-friendly brewery in Fort Collins and the surrounding areas (there are A LOT) and we could go on for days talking about the variety of options. To help you navigate the options, we’ll call out some of our favorite stops while also noting others that should be on your list.
Amazing Outdoor Spaces
- New Belgium Brewing Company – One of the OG Fort Collins breweries that continues to be a fan favorite. Your dogs will love the vast outdoor turf area, grabbing a table at one of the many outdoor seating areas, or relaxing with you to live music. There is often a food truck available on site as well. Dogs are allowed inside here, though the inside seating area is limited.
- Odell Brewing Company – Just down the street from New Belgium you’ll find another local staple, Odell. This has one of the top outdoor spaces of any brewery we’ve been to. With multiple tiers of patios, beautiful gardens, and plenty of unique green spaces, you’ll find the perfect spot for you and your pup. The brewery typically has a food truck on site and is now connected to a neighboring vineyard if you prefer wine. Dogs are allowed inside with you while you order, but must be seated outside.
- Stodgy Brewing Company – Though this brewery is located just a few blocks outside of the main areas of town, it feels like you’re visiting a rustic cabin. An spacious outdoor space is decorated to match this rustic theme with many unique seating areas and fun lighting. There is often a food truck available on site as well. The cozy interior is also dog friendly if you’re looking for an indoor option.
Unique Offerings
- Crooked Stave – Located within the Old Town Square area of Fort Collins, Crooked Stave offers a unique way to enjoy their beers. Grab a beer to go and explore the dog-friendly square to grab some ice cream, food, or enjoy live music. At the brewery itself, dogs are welcome with open arms inside and out. This is the spot to go if you’re looking to try some unique wild and sour beers!
- Jessup Farm Barrel House – As part of the Jessup Farm Artisan Village, you’ll find the brewery located among a coffee shop, local vendors, dinging options, and even a great dog-friendly ice cream spot. Your dogs will enjoy the relaxed outdoor space while you sip on a creative variety of complex and barrel aged beers. There is an onsite kitchen with a small menu of tasty offerings.
- Purpose Brewing and Cellar – Though the location doesn’t initially stand out as it is part of a strip mall, Purpose is always a must-stop location for us. The smaller brewery offers a relaxing indoor environment for your dogs along with a small outdoor patio. Our favorite part about stopping here is that they have a continuously rotating menu with new options on tap each time we stop. The brewery offers some snacks, but not a full food menu. Some of the best beer in town!
Other Top Picks
- Zweii Brewing – German-style brewery welcoming dogs inside and out. Great traditional beer – prost!
- Salt Road Brewing – Located right in the heart of Old Town with spacious indoor and outdoor spaces that welcome dogs.
- Horse & Dragon Brewing – On the outskirts of town with a large variety of beers. Dogs on patio only.
- Funkwerks – Right next to Horse & Dragon with a nice dog friendly patio. Focused on funky, wild, and sour beers.
- Maxline Brewing – Dogs welcome inside and out. Covered patio offering misting fans and food truck on site.
Accomodations
While we typically stay in Airbnbs when traveling with our dogs, Fort Collins is one of our exceptions. The Armstrong Hotel in Fort Collins is one of our favorite dog-friendly spots! It is located right in the heart of Old Town on College Ave. This puts you within walking distance of all the local shopping and dining options in the area as well as many of the breweries that we mentioned above. They treat our dogs like royalty whenever we stay here and welcome them to dine with you at their outdoor terrace restaurant. If we’re looking for an alternative to The Armstrong, Fort Collins has a plethora of dog-friendly Airbnb listings available along with many other dog-friendly hotels.
Outdoor Adventures
When you’re ready to hit the great outdoors, these are some of our favorite nearby picks:
- Horsetooth Reservoir Area – This is our top pick in the area and the closest to Fort Collins. We did a more detailed post into exploring this area here.
- Devil’s Backbone Open Space – This unique hiking area is located approximately 30 minutes south of Fort Collins. The main highlight is the nature trail which takes you along the towering rock formations of the area. Though the full dog-friendly trail is 4.3 miles long, there are smaller loops within it for you to shorten the distance while still seeing the main geological attractions.
- If you’re considering a bit of a further drive from Fort Collins, check out our Estes Park post for many nearby dog-friendly options. The iconic Flatirons mountain area of Boulder is also a popular dog-friendly hiking stop that we’ve enjoyed visiting.
Pack up your pup, grab a leash, and head to Fort Collins for a memorable day of “Pups & Pints” in this charming Colorado city. Cheers to good company, great beer, and the joy of sharing it all with your canine companion! Check out our dog-friendly travel posts for more trip ideas and tips.
