Emirates Economy Class: Must-Know Luggage Tips for Travelers
Are you planning to fly Emirates economy class and embark on an exciting journey? Whether you’re a seasoned traveler or experiencing Emirates for the first time, there are essential things you must know before taking off. In this blog post, we’ll cover some things that surprised us when flying with Emirates economy class for the first time along with some tips for planning your flight. Let’s dive in and discover how to have a comfortable and enjoyable flight in economy class with Emirates Airlines.
Baggage
While preparing for our direct Chicago to Dubai flight we realized that you are NOT able to bring on your typical carry-on size luggage plus a personal item. We’ve never seen this before so it didn’t even cross our minds. Luckily, we realized this before getting to the ticketing counter and were able to scramble to re-arrange luggage and ensure that we had an in cabin bag prepared with the essentials we needed for the 14 hour flight.
What Can You Bring In Cabin?
You are allowed 1 bag total:
- 1 carry-on but the size and weight of the carry-on are much smaller than the standard size most major airlines allow.
- No additional personal item (Becca tucked her purse in her carry-on).
Economy Carry-On Limit (see baggage limitation details):
- Roughly 21 x 15 x 8 inch size limit
- Approximately 15.5 pound weight limit.
The good thing is that you are able to check 2 full size bags for free! In our situation our carry-on luggage was fine to check (Drew had to remove and tuck in all his straps to his backpack) so it wasn’t that big of a deal. By planning ahead for this you won’t be left making last minute adjustments in the airport like us!
Unique Economy Seating Option
If you’re a couple like us who sticks to economy and want to avoid being packed next to other people on a long flight, Emirates offers a unique Twin Seat option. Instead of the typical 3 seat arrangement you can have a configuration with just 2 seats. This gives you some more room to stretch out and more importantly ensures nobody has to climb over you! The cost for this upgrade was minimal and we thought it was worth it. View more details on Emirates’ seat options.
Multi-City Bookings
Our trip to Dubai also included some time in the Maldives. We were surprised to find that Emirates let us book a multi-city ticket with what was essentially a long layover between each stop. For example, we spent 6 days in Dubai before traveling to the Maldives and back to Dubai before heading home. This was all booked on a single ticket. This provided great cost savings compared to booking the trip from Dubai to the Maldives individually! Definitely look into this option if you’re visiting multiple destinations that Emirates services.
Now that you know these tips on what to expect traveling in Emirates economy class, pack your bags and let Emirates take you to your destination with comfort and style. For more travel inspiration, check out our additional blog posts on international travel.
