There are numerous scenic drives throughout the park that your dogs can join you on with stops along the way. Roll down your windows and let your pop take in all the views! These were our favorite drives in the park with great opportunities to also get some walking in:

• Howland Hill Road – One of the most iconic and dog-friendly experiences in the park is driving through Howland Hill Road. This narrow, winding dirt road that takes you deep into the heart of the old-growth redwood forest. As you slowly make your way through the forest, you’ll find yourself surrounded by towering redwoods, with their massive trunks just inches from your vehicle. The road is rough and unpaved, making it an adventurous journey, but the stunning views make it well worth the effort. Along with watching from your vehicle, there are plenty of opportunities to park and walk your dogs along the road.
• Coastal Drive – The Coastal Drive is a stunning 9-mile scenic loop that offers incredible views of the Pacific Ocean, craggy cliffs, and historic sites. Dogs are welcome to join you on this drive, and there are a few places to stop and explore along the way. Check out the Klamath River Overlook for breathtaking views of the mouth of the Klamath River meeting the Pacific Ocean—perfect for a scenic walk with your pup.

Outdoor Exploration in Redwoods National Park With Dogs

Though this park is known for its forests, there are many other areas to explore outside of the trees. You’ll find plenty of dog-friendly picnic areas, overlooks, and beaches to choose from along your journey.

If your dog loves the beach, Gold Bluffs Beach is the perfect place to spend the day. This expansive, sandy beach is located within Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park and allows dogs on leashes. Let your pup enjoy the wide-open space as you stroll along the shoreline, listening to the sound of crashing waves. The beach is also a great place for spotting wildlife, including Roosevelt elk that frequent the area.
