Summiting Mountains on our RV Adventure
We’ve continued to have both scenic and challenging drives as we progress through our RV adventure. Our recent drives include going from Moab, UT to the Bryce Canyon, UT area and then from there to Flagstaff, AZ.
For the Moab to Bryce Canyon drive, there are a few different options to choose from – none that are all that direct. Regardless of what option you choose, you start on I-70 which takes you through some scenic passes with steep climbs and descents. After that, we decided to take Google’s “fastest” route which had us exiting on highway 72. This ended up winding us through forests and mountains with many steep climbs and summits. It was certainly scenic, but slow going at times in a RV and definitely made it an adventure – we rarely were able to go the speed limit.
Something that was surprisingly on this route to the Bryce Canyon area and across Utah and Arizona in general is that there are a lot of warnings for free range cattle crossing. We came across a couple on the road along the way and had a very close call at night with some giant longhorn cattle that would not have been fun to hit! It’s interesting to see cattle gates along all the roads as you enter and exit the highways.
From Bryce Canyon to Flagstaff there is one main route to take. As with the other drives in the area, this route also includes many steep climbs and descents, but overall not very challenging in a RV. Much of the route is on a 2 lane highway and so traffic builds up behind you at times when not able to go the speed limit, but luckily there are quite a few passing lanes on the climbs.
We hope this helps you plan your next trip! Check out more of our outdoor adventures here.
