2 Dogs Walk Into a Bar… in Deadwood

2 Dogs Walk Into a Bar… in Deadwood

All set up for the second stop of our RV adventure in the historic Wild West town of Deadwood, South Dakota. It was a scenic drive through the Black Hills getting here ending at the Deadwood / Black Hills KOA. The wooded campsite along a hillside provides some great views, and the friendly owner shared multiple maps and suggestions for where to visit in the area. Deadwood will serve as our base for exploring the Black Hills and also for our first 2 days of remote work.

OMG Corgis!

We spent our first evening in Deadwood taking in all that the historic Main Street had to offer. Given that it’s early May and rather cold and dreary, we expected the town to be dead, but it was just the opposite – the casinos were packed and people were out having a good time everywhere! We enjoyed walking up and down Main Street stopping at some dog friendly shops along the way (including a distillery for some moonshine samples) with the Corgis getting a lot of attention. Our favorite stop was at the historic Saloon #10 where Wild Bill (supposedly) got shot. They allow dogs in their Wild West decorated multi-bar saloon and the staff was extremely friendly – they even brought over water and dog treats. The best part for the Corgis was that we had a table near the door and everyone passing through stopped to give pets!

We hope this helps you plan your next trip! Check out more of our outdoor adventures here.
