Remote Working Off The Beaten Path

Remote Working Off The Beaten Path

We are now a couple days into remote working from the RV, and so far so good! Our Verizon service was a bit spotty in the Deadwood area so we were concerned about using our hotspot, but luckily the KOA’s WiFi was reliable and fast and we didn’t need to use it.

Is that a FBI surveillance van?!?

Our RV setup definitely looks a bit odd with all the cords and monitors, but overall we’ve been able to work around things well. The biggest challenge is transitioning into a comfortable living space after hours without having to pack away everything. We are looking forward to warmer weathers later in the trip where we’ll have the option to also work outside.

Homestake Mine – Lead, SD

While remote working in Deadwood we are in Mountain Time and 1 hour ahead of our companies in IA. This makes for early morning meetings, but also allows us to end our days a bit earlier to get out and explore the area. We took this opportunity to visit Spearfish Canyon which provided some great scenery. While there we did a hike to Roughlock Falls. There are a few different trail options in the area, but the one we did was 2 miles in and out mostly flat ending in the paved overlook area for the falls. This trail gave some great views of the canyon and the falls, and was the perfect distance for a quick after work hike! On the way back from the Spearfish area we also made a pit stop in Lead to check out the Homestake Mine site which was interesting to see.

We hope this helps you plan your next trip! Check out more of our outdoor adventures here.
